New project: Demolition and new construction of the Trnovo Karunova Kindergarten in Ljubljana

The existing building on the site is being completely removed, including the exterior, and the utility connections are also being reconstructed. A new building is being built on the site, which will consist of a ground floor and first floor, and there will also be a basement in the northern part of the building, namely, we will implement a basement tunnel that will connect the new kindergarten, i.e. the Karunova unit and the Trnovo Kindergarten, Kolezijska unit. The basement will also have a kitchen, laundry room, technical room and storage rooms. The ground floor and first floor will have playrooms, lobbies with changing rooms, rooms for parents and employees, and the first floor will also have a large training room.

The construction of the Karunov Kindergarten is designed as a hybrid structure in a combination of reinforced concrete foundations, basement and parts of the ground floor and a massive wooden structure made of cross-laminated timber panels and Xlam CLT walls on the ground floor and first floor. Steel beams are also used to bridge larger spans.

As part of the arrangement of the external areas, a playground with toys will be arranged, when they will be adapted to individual age groups. Green areas will also be arranged, with the total area of ​​the green areas thus amounting to approximately 2,000 m2.

The goals of the new building are to provide appropriate spaces for the comprehensive implementation of preschool education according to modern principles, while simultaneously ensuring the seismic and fire safety of the building, energy efficiency, and ensuring appropriate capacities, which will increase from 10 to 12 departments with the new kindergarten.
