Renovated Baroque mansion
22. Dec 2015The renovated Art Nouveau building Baroque mansion was opened at the University of Maribor. The mansion will be used for research and study activities of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics (FERI).
The building with elements of the then modern Art Nouveau style on Prežihova Street was built in 1903 by order of Baroness Emma Mixich Rast, and its architect was Fritz Friedriger.
FERI has thus acquired 1,565 square meters of new space, where, according to Dean Borut Žalik, premises for research activities and classrooms will be arranged. A pre-incubator programme will be set up on the ground floor, which will be available to students 24 hours a day. “We are a big faculty and our strength is connecting. The contents in the Baroque mansion is a step towards further integration of all disciplines that this faculty cultivates, and above all, those disciplines that are currently facing the greatest space shortage will find a place in it,” said the dean.
The entire construction was carried out by VG5.
In addition to the Baroque mansion, the University of Maribor is also renovating the building on Krekova Street in Maribor, which is one of the most important architectures of its time. Additional spaces will provide the implementation of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering and Architecture programmes. These works are also performed by VG5.
